Edward Elric started on his arduous path to becoming one of the greatest state alchemists by great tragedy, first when he lost his mother, and then when he and his brother lost portions of themselves while trying to bring their mother back to life. These are things that no one growing up should experience, but these events helped shape Edward’s determination to become the best alchemist alive. A series of adventures indeed gave him the needed training and experience to become one of the best alchemists alive, although this also made him a target of other alchemists seeking to test their abilities against his to see who was better. These adventures defined the general experience of the Elric brothers as state alchemists, and his automail parts have earned Edward the name of Fullmetal Alchemist.
